South Lanarkshire Council's £10 million fire safety improvement programme has reached a significant milestone, with CCG (Scotland) completing installations in over 1,700 high-rise residences across East Kilbride and Cambuslang.
The Glasgow-based construction firm has been working closely with the council since 2022 to enhance fire safety standards. Over 2,700 of CCG's FD60 fire door sets have been installed, providing increased protection for residents.
As the 10-phase contract progresses, the focus shifts to Hamilton and Rutherglen, ensuring that fire safety improvements benefit communities throughout South Lanarkshire. The project, procured through the Scottish Procurement Alliance, demonstrates a commitment to improving the lives of residents and enhancing the overall safety of high-rise buildings.
CCG Asset Management Manager, Jim Cunningham, said: "Fire doors play a vital role in fire strategy for high-rise residences. Ranging from flat entrance to common passage, storage, and main entrance door sets, each product is specially designed to mitigate the flow of fire and passage of smoke for up to 60 minutes.
"The extent of this contract shows how seriously the Council takes fire safety and are delighted to have played our part over the last 2 years."
The door sets – comprising the door leaf and frame – are fabricated and installed entirely in-house by CCG with ironmongery, intumescent strips, glazing and robotically-applied paint performed in the factory before being carefully installed at the address.
Each flat is personally inspected before installation with all works conducted at the convenience of the occupier.
Jim continued: "CCG can offer fire door sets in both an FD30 or FD60 rating, ensuring we can address our client's needs no matter the type of housing stock, however, high-rise residences – with their tight closes and lack of available space – do present challenges so we must streamline the installation process as much as we can. That is why we inspect every doorway and meticulously plan our health & safety protocols so that the installation can be done quickly while maintaining the safety of residents and services alike.
"Our team's efforts since the commencement of the contract are to be commended and I look forward to seeing their progress over the coming months as we enter the final phases of the programme."
