Scottish Water has successfully relocated a family of beavers from the grounds of Glenfarg Water Treatment Works to the Cairngorms National Park. The move was necessary to allow for a multi-million-pound upgrade to the water treatment facility.
The beavers, which had made their home in the glen, were captured and transported to Five Sisters Zoo for health screening before being released into a suitable habitat within the National Park.
The relocation was carried out in partnership with the Cairngorms National Park Authority and the Beaver Trust, ensuring the well-being of the animals. The Park Authority is working to establish a wild beaver population in the Spey Catchment, and the relocated beavers will contribute to this initiative.
Martin McIlvaney, Scottish Water's Senior Project Manager said: "We recognise the challenges of undertaking major construction in a rural environment, and the successful relocation of the beavers to Cairngorms National Park is a testament to our commitment to delivering this project.
"We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Beavers Trust and the Cairngorms National Park Authority for their invaluable support and guidance.
"This achievement enables us to move forward with the upgrades at Glenfarg Water Treatment Works, knowing that the beavers are flourishing in their new habitat."
