A significant £5 million project to upgrade Riverside Park in Glenrothes is progressing steadily. Funded by the UK Government, the initiative aims to enhance the park's appeal and provide improved facilities for local residents and visitors.
Recent months have seen substantial progress, including extensive pond works and the upgrade of numerous paths and walkways. However, further work is planned throughout the winter, leading to some disruption until March 2025.
A key milestone in the project is the construction of a new £1 million play park in Riverside East. The main construction work is set to commence in the week beginning November 11th.
To facilitate the project, traffic management measures have been implemented on the A911 Leslie Road. These measures will be in place until the end of the week, followed by the installation of a toucan crossing, which will require traffic lights from November 18th for approximately two weeks.
Additionally, the Riverside West Pond Car Park will be temporarily closed for a few days starting from the week of November 11th to allow for essential surfacing work.
Furthermore, planned bridge improvements on the B969 River Leven Bridge will necessitate a lane closure from November 18th. Temporary traffic lights will be in place throughout the duration of the works, which are expected to last until mid to late February. However, restrictions will be lifted during the Christmas and New Year period to minimise disruption.
Councillor John Beare, convener of Glenrothes Area Committee, said: "Winter might be coming but it’s fantastic to see the plans for the park coming to fruition, and the next few months will be really important.
"The east side of the park in particular will undergo a major transformation and is an active site, so we’d like to remind members of the public to please stay outside of all working areas for their own safety.
"The planned works on the bridge will not only improve its appearance but they’ll also include some parapet and lighting improvements which are very welcome."
The planned programme of works will – as ever - be weather dependent, and further updates on the project’s progress will be provided as/when necessary.
