A.C. Whyte Inspires Future Builders

Construction News Image
A.C. Whyte's Tommy Campbell and Bobby Mills recently visited Leith Academy to engage with young students and inspire the next generation of construction professionals. The visit was part of the company's community benefits commitment for a recent whole-house retrofit project undertaken for the City of Edinburgh Council.

During the visit, Tommy and Bobby conducted a practical skills workshop for 70-80 S3 pupils. The workshop provided hands-on experience in roofing, energy efficiency, and bird box construction. A.C. Whyte supplied all necessary equipment, including roof rigs, materials, PPE, and tools.

The successful completion of the whole-house retrofit project has resulted in warmer, more energy-efficient homes for residents. The company's commitment to community engagement and skills development highlights its dedication to both social responsibility and construction excellence.

Phil Dickson, at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, shared his feedback: "I thought that both exercises were perfect for the S3s. As well as introducing them to careers in construction, they experienced a huge sense of achievement from doing something practical and physical. It was heart-warming to see how excited the pupils were, whether it was hammering in a nail or putting a screw in a bird box—activities that gave them an immediate confidence boost, which they don't always get in other contexts.

"Both Tommy and Bobby were incredible role models for our young people, and I'm sure they will remember this experience for a long time."
