GB Energy's Chair, Juergen Maier, and Director, Tim Cullen, visited the Port of Aberdeen today to explore the port's role in driving sustainable economic growth and supporting the energy transition.

Joined by representatives from Invest Aberdeen, Mr. Maier and Mr. Cullen were welcomed by Port CEO Bob Sanguinetti, Chair Roy Buchan, and Chief Commercial Officer Roddy James. The visit followed the recent announcement that GB Energy would establish its headquarters in Aberdeen.

Discussions focused on the opportunities and challenges of accelerating the next generation of offshore wind. Port of Aberdeen outlined its plans to dredge parts of South Harbour to optimise the new facility for floating offshore wind and redevelop the Regent Centre into a net-zero hub for offshore wind operations and maintenance.

Mr. Maier and Mr. Cullen also toured the South Harbour quayside, learning how the port's expansion is set to support the UK Government's net-zero ambitions.

Bob Sanguinetti said: "The UK Government's decision to headquarter GB Energy in Aberdeen is a vote of confidence in the North East of Scotland and its world-leading energy supply chain. Offshore wind is a generational opportunity and accelerating deployment is critical to ensure a carefully managed energy transition.

"We were delighted to welcome Juergen and Tim to the port and demonstrate energy transition in action, as we continue to support our valued customers in oil and gas while positioning Aberdeen for upcoming INTOG and ScotWind projects.

"With the right partnerships, Port of Aberdeen will play a pivotal role in the UK Government's growth, clean energy and decarbonisation ambitions."
