Kingston Coastal Erosion Plan To Be Unveiled At Public Event

Construction News Image
A new plan to manage coastal erosion in Kingston will be presented at a public drop-in event next week.

The initiative, funded by the Scottish Government, aims to protect the village from erosion with the construction of a 500mm high shingle bank. The bank will stretch from Lein Car Park on the west side of the village to the main shingle ridge at the lagoon on the east side.

As part of the project, a new coastal monitoring station will be installed, allowing residents to contribute to ongoing monitoring efforts by taking photos of the coastline using their smartphones. This citizen science approach will help track changes over time.

Representatives from Moray Council, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), and NatureScot will be available to discuss the plans at the event, which will take place at Garmouth and Kingston Golf Club on Wednesday, 23 October, between 3pm and 6.30pm.

Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee, Cllr Marc Macrae, said: "Community engagement is vital as we tackle the challenges of coastal erosion and flooding. This drop-in event is an opportunity for residents to voice their views, share ideas, and learn about the solutions being put in place to protect coastal communities across Moray."
