£2m Glenmavis Sewer Network Improvement Works Announced

Construction News Image
Scottish Water have announced a £2 million programme of sewer improvement works in Glenmavis in North Lanarkshire.

The publicly-owned utility is supporting development and reducing the risk of future sewer flooding in Glenmavis through its commercial subsidiary Scottish Water Horizons.

The first phase of the project has seen the installation of a storage pipe in the grass verge between Dunvegan and Windsor Drive.

To connect this to the existing sewer it will be necessary to close the B803 Raebog Road between Appin Way and Windsor Drive from Friday 27 September 2024 to Monday 30 September 2024.

A diversion will be set up along Stirling Road, Dykehead Road and Glenmavis Road.

John Kerr, Scottish Water's Project Manager said: "We have timed the closure to coincide with the September weekend holiday when local schools will be shut.

"We had hoped to carry out the work under temporary traffic lights but unfortunately the location of the existing sewer means a full closure is required.

"We appreciate it will be inconvenient and we can only apologise for any disruption it may cause.

"We are letting everyone likely to be affected know about the works, and we will do all that we can to warn the wider community before the closure is in place."

From Tuesday 1 October, work will begin to install a new upgraded sewer along Glenmavis Road for approximately six months.

This will be carried out under temporary lights, beginning opposite Woodhead Crescent, and progressing along the carriageway towards the roundabout and then uphill onto Coatbridge Road.
