Improvement works are set to commence at Linn Crematorium in Glasgow.
Operated by Glasgow City Council, the crematorium will close to the public on Monday, July 15, for three months, to allow refurbishment works to get underway. This follows the recent renovation project at the council's other crematorium at Daldowie.
The work at Linn will include a full upgrade of all the electrical and heating systems within the B-listed building but also complete redecoration of both St Mungo's and St Giles' chapels and public areas.
During the renovation work access to the memorial gardens at Linn Crematorium will not be possible but the Books of Remembrance will be available for viewing at the adjacent office for Linn Cemetery. To help manage the closure of Linn, the number of daily services at Daldowie will be increased with funeral directors advised of the forthcoming work.
The crematorium is expected to reopen in October this year, although some renovation work due to continue in other parts of the crematorium complex.
Cllr Ruairi Kelly, City Convener for Neighbourhood Services and Assets, said: "These are essential works that will make a significant difference to the quality of the facilities at Linn Crematorium.
"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure and we can assure families that memorial gardens will be protected during the forthcoming works.
"Facilities at our Daldowie Crematorium have been greatly improved by recent renovation work and we are confident we will a similar improvement at Linn Crematorium once these works are complete."
