Dundee Council Calls For Views On New Local Development Plan

Construction News Image
Dundee City Council has called for views to help shape the future of building development in the city.

The council is working on a new Local Development Plan (LDP), due to be published in 2028, which will set out the land use strategy to guide future development of land and buildings.

The first stage of this new LDP focuses on the production of an Evidence Report. This report will consist of a collection of topic papers on planning themes in accordance with National Planning Framework 4 set out by the Scottish Government.

The council is engaging on what evidence is required to inform future stages of the Local Development Plan preparation.

The latest three topics which are now open for comment are:

• Climate change, mitigation and adaptation, environmental responsibility

• Design, quality and place

• Sustainable transport

You can participate directly and share your views on the council’s website here

People can also email localdevplan@dundeecity.gov.uk to request a survey in an alternative format.

Comments on the latest three topics should be submitted by August 14. Further updates will be given when other topics are open for comment.

During the process, an online survey based on the Place Standard Tool is also available to help the council better understand the quality of neighbourhoods across Dundee.

The overall aim is to create good quality places for people to live, work and play in the city. People’s submissions will help the council to identify the key issues in the area, and influence how these issues are addressed through the LDP.

Councillor Steven Rome, convener of the Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Committee, added: "Getting the LDP right will help to make Dundee thrive going forward.

"I am keen that our commitment to community wealth building can be strengthened through the involvement of local firms in major construction projects. I would ask anyone with an interest in the future of the city to come forward and give their views on the evidence required to support future development in the city."

Councillor Will Dawson, convener of the Planning Committee said: "I would encourage people to get involved in this evidence gathering phase as the LDP will have a huge influence on what Dundee will look like going forward. The LDP will determine what can be built and where, while giving us a framework for taking decisions and making recommendations on applications.

"The plan will focus on delivering high quality design and new housing balanced with protecting existing assets including main shopping streets, green spaces and sites of historic interest."

Meanwhile, children, young people and families are being asked for their views about outdoor play spaces across Dundee. A survey has been launched to find out how often they play outside, as well as how they travel to play areas and what they think about their quality. This survey is open until August 30.
