SP Energy Networks has announced a £750,000 programme of electricity network upgrade and reinforcement works in Lanarkshire.
The essential works to install a new high-voltage underground cable are expected to take around three weeks from today, Monday 8 July.
The investment will help strengthen the local electricity network and support the increased uptake of clean and green technologies like heat pumps and electric vehicles.
To ensure the works can be carried out safely and as quickly as possible, the M74 Junction 8 northbound offslip at Canderside Toll will be closed from Monday 8 – Sunday 28 July, which could mean potential delays and longer journey times on surrounding roads.
Signed diversions and temporary traffic management arrangements will be in operation during the works, including manned traffic lights between 7am and 7pm each day to help manage traffic flow as effectively as possible.
Advance warning signs are already in place to advise of the pending closure.
Craig Cottrill, SP Energy Networks' District General Manager for Lanarkshire said: "This is an important project for the region, with our six-figure investment helping ensure the electricity network continues to support the move to a cleaner and greener future for local people and businesses.
"We know that the location of the works – and the temporary slip road closure required to ensure we can complete them safely – will cause some disruption and we're doing everything we can, in conjunction with the roads authorities, to minimise the impact of this as much as possible.
"Please ensure you plan ahead, take an alternative route and allow extra time for your journeys. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue to build the network for a clean energy future."
