ScottishPower have welcomed Shadow Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves to their Whitelee Windfarm, where she set out the Labour Party's plans to unlock investment and deliver reforms to boost economic growth.
She was joined by ScottishPower Chief Executive Keith Anderson and Anas Sarwar MSP, Leader of the Scottish Labour Party alongside Blair McDougall, Labour candidate for East Renfrewshire.
They met with ScottishPower apprentices, graduates, technical engineering and ecology staff and heard first-hand how the windfarm's 215 turbines generate up to 539 MW of electricity – enough to power Glasgow.
Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower, said: "It was a pleasure to host Rachel Reeves at Whitelee today. The Shadow Chancellor was very engaged in understanding the economic and environmental benefits of green investments and how the UK can unlock more growth through green power.
"Whitelee is a great example of how businesses and local communities can work together to develop renewable projects, delivering investment, jobs and first-class facilities that everyone can enjoy.
"We are continuing to engage across the political spectrum on the economic benefit of developing homegrown, clean, green power and the billions in investments we're making to prepare Britain for an electric future. Investing in projects that deliver growth, jobs, supply chain contracts and support the UK's long-term decarbonisation targets."
Alongside producing up to 539MW of electricity to help power Britain, Whitelee windfarm also has a 50MW battery storage site and plans to develop one of the UK's first green hydrogen facilities. Officially opened in 2009, it has become widely admired for its community facilities, providing access to a unique visitor centre and more than 130 km of trails for walking, cycling and horse riding alongside hosting and being a haven for wildlife.
