CCG Scotland has welcomed the news that the multi-award-winning North Gate has won another industry accolade after securing a prestigious RIAS Award.
Officially announced by the RIBA Journal, the awards occurred at a ceremony hosted at the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh with the CCG project amongst esteemed company with 11 projects announced as winners on the evening including the likes of the Burrell Collection and the Edinburgh Fruitmarket Gallery.
The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) is "a champion of Architecture and the Built Environment in Scotland. It supports the interests of its growing membership, united through its six regional Chapters, to promote the importance of well-designed buildings and places".
Their awards are some of the most prestigious in Scotland. The jury hailed the commitment to provide "convivial, attractive and robustly-detailed homes – clearly adored by residents and making for a new part of the city".
Page/Park Architects was the design lead for the 31-home development. Located on the corner of Laurieston Road and Crown Street in the Gorbals, south Glasgow, North Gate reaches eight storeys and is designed as a series of towers to create a landmark feature for those travelling from the city centre.
The "towers", styled in the shape of a crown as a nod to the location of the development and decades of regeneration undertaken on Crown Street, are to the advantage of the residents with all dwellings offering either a dual or triple aspect.
North Gate was specifically designed to cater for elderly residents. The housing mix of one and two-bedroom apartments offers a comfortable and flexible living environment with each dwelling capable of future adaption, whilst well-utilised shared facilities at ground level, including a communal lounge, kitchen, activity area, bike store and laundry, were integrated to help mitigate loneliness and encourage interaction amongst residents.
CCG led construction on behalf of our client New Gorbals Housing Association and formally handed over the the development in 2022.
