GRAHAM Begins Fit-Out Of BT's New Dundee Office

Construction News Image
GRAHAM has been appointed as lead contractor and interior fit-out specialist for the multi-million-pound fit-out of telecommunication firm, BT's, new office in Dundee.

BT will move from its current premises on Ward Road, where it has been situated since 1976, to purpose-built office space, 2 Greenmarket, at West Marketgait, in the heart of the city centre and close to the waterfront.

Aiding wider regeneration efforts ongoing across Dundee, the state-of-the-art office space will provide the company's 1,000 staff with features designed to enhance employee wellness, including communal and collaborative spaces, a games area, and an in-house coffee shop.

Set across five-storeys, the 76,000 sq. ft building will boast unique sustainability features, becoming one of the most 'green' buildings in the city, including a self-vegetating brown roof where seeds dropped by birds or carried in by the wind will grow.

Staff will benefit from shower rooms and clothes drying facilities, encouraging people to choose to commute to work via active travel, and electric vehicle charging points will be available in the car park.

The fit-out is part of BT's Better Workplace Programme, the largest workplace improvement and consolidation scheme of its kind ever undertaken in the UK, which will see the company upgrade hundreds of its offices across the country to establish a host of modern workspaces for its colleagues.

Staff who manage customer service operate from the Dundee hub, and the improved technology and modernised office space will help communities, individuals and businesses become better connected.

The building enjoys close proximity to the waterfront, where major projects V&A Dundee, the new railway station, Waterfront Place and Slessor Gardens have already been completed. Further investment from BT will underline Dundee City Council's aspirations to become a destination of choice for national and international businesses.

Daniel Chesney, Strategic Development Director for Interior Fit-Out at GRAHAM, said: "We are really excited to get underway with the fit-out of BT's highly anticipated new office space in Dundee and equally proud to be a part of the significant regeneration efforts ongoing in the city.

"By prioritising sustainability and the health and wellbeing of its staff, BT has created a unique space that responds to modern ways of working and the understanding that an office is more than just a place to work.

"GRAHAM has partnered with BT for more than five years, delivering high-specification fit-out works across the UK. We look forward to continuing supporting their team as they continue to make substantial investment in major UK towns and cities."

The project team includes project managers and quantity surveyors, Thomas & Adamson, the architect is IDSR Sheppard Robson and the mechanical, electrical and plumbing consultant is Troup Bywaters + Ander.
