Morris & Spottiswood Completes Large-Scale Refurbishment Project

Construction News Image
Construction firm, Morris & Spottiswood have announced the successful completion of a large-scale refurbishment project with Circle Health Group as part of a multi-million pound investment at Ross Hall Hospital.

With the hospital remaining entirely operational throughout the 26-month period, Morris & Spottiswood carried out three projects simultaneously across the site to upgrade the hospital's facilities. This included exterior upgrades of cladding, windows, and steel support structures; the refurbishment of 88 patient bedrooms including new shower/wet rooms, along with new nursing stations and support services; and a two-storey extension to the main reception area, including 2 new surgical theatres and pharmacy.

To ensure the hospital maintained its occupancy levels, the Morris & Spottiswood team met daily with representatives from the hospital to understand their needs and adjust work plans as required. The team also undertook multiple shifts to work around the busiest periods of the day, whilst also minimising disruption for overnight patients and staff. This was supported by Morris & Spottiswood's end-to-end service delivery, the flexibility of the wider supply chain, and the team's experience in dust and infection control.

Alan Sinclair, Senior Contracts Manager at Morris & Spottiswood, said: "The project at Ross Hall Hospital is one of our largest and most complex to date, but we are proud that we delivered it efficiently for Circle Health Group while maintaining the daily function of the hospital. This level of refurbishment in a live medical environment takes a significant amount of planning, but we used our extensive experience in infection prevention and control to ensure the patient experience was never impacted and create a modern building that patients expect.

"We have a strong relationship with Circle Health Group and our previous track record of successful delivery means they trust in our ability to deliver projects of this importance to the hospital. The new exterior of the building, especially the striking glass-fronted entrance, and the modern interiors have transformed the site and enhanced the environment for both patients and staff."

Greg Middleton, Director of Operations & Service Development at Ross Hall Hospital, said: "Morris & Spottiswood worked with us previously on the opening of our new Ross Hall Clinic Braehead facility prior to commencing the works at Ross Hall Hospital and became very much part of the Ross Hall team as a result. The working relationship evolved even further through the main hospital development as we literally built a new hospital on top of an already fully operational hospital. During the time of the project we still managed to perform thousands of procedures. We were continually impressed by Morris & Spottiswood's site management, and their flexibility in adapting to our demands around the challenges of a live environment and we are very thankful for the hard work that made this project a success."

The healthcare sector is a key focus area for Morris & Spottiswood, with several long-term client relationships and over £25m in project delivery over the past three years. In addition to Circle Health Group, the business has also recently completed projects for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Trust, and Health Facilities Scotland.

Founded in Glasgow in 1925, Morris & Spottiswood operates across the UK in fit-out, M&E, and housing, with offices in Glasgow, Livingston, Warrington, and Leeds.
