Perth And Kinross Development Recognised At UK Housing Awards

A social housing development by Perth and Kinross Council and CCG (Scotland) has been recognised at a prestigious UK awards ceremony.

The site of the former 208 pub on Crieff Road was used to build 24 new flats for Council tenants in 2019.

The national Aico Community Awards, recently held at Birmingham's International Convention Centre, awarded the project the runner-up prize in the Neighbourhood Transformation category.

The awards are held every two years to celebrate excellence in the social housing industry.

The new flats, built by the Council's construction partner CCG at the key site on Crieff Road, are made up of high-quality two-bedroom flats for affordable social rent. Three of the six ground-floor flats have been designed to be suitable for tenants with mobility issues.

The project transformed a derelict site into attractive and much needed housing for affordable social rent.

The build was part of Perth & Kinross Council's programme of house building across the area that has delivered over 400 new Council homes right across the area since 2012.

The Council's Housing and Social Wellbeing Convener, Councillor Tom McEwan, said: "It's terrific that this important social housing project for Perth has been recognised at a UK level. We were one of only three Scottish housing projects nominated at these prestigious awards.

"The new flats at occupy a prominent site on Crieff Road and it was important that the Council was able to purchase the land for this development. The build can be seen as an important part of the redevelopment of this area of Perth, with the A9/A85 road project now also complete.

"As well as being a huge improvement on what stood there before, the flats are providing high-quality accommodation for people at an affordable rent.

"The Council is committed to delivering additional affordable accommodation for people across Perth and Kinross and we will continue to identify sites where we can build new social housing."
