KPS Limited has been appointed to construct a new 5,250 sq ft Co-op retail store including six IONITY electric vehicle (EV) High-Power charging (HPC) stations at Shawfair Business Park, Edinburgh, on behalf of Buccleuch Property.
The development promises to provide convenience retail for Park users, local residents and visitors whilst also bolstering the Park's strong environmental credentials by increasing its electric vehicle charging infrastructure. A 560-space Park'n Ride and the dedicated Shawfair train station already provide excellent sustainable transport links to and from the Business Park. Completion of the development is expected in Autumn 2024 when the IONITY charging hub will also be open to all and supporting both long distance and local city electric vehicle travel in the area.
Located just off the City of Edinburgh bypass (A720), the charging site will be open to all brands with six 350kW HPC stations, all of which provide 100% green energy from source to socket.
The Business Park has over 250,000 sq ft of development now completed and occupied including Spire Hospital, a state-of-the-art David Lloyd leisure club, which opened to the public in 2023, and the Danfoss Low Carbon Innovation Centre. It is also immediately adjacent to Shawfair, the largest urban expansion initiative in Edinburgh which will eventually see 4,000 new homes constructed along with new schools, a community campus and extensive open space and parkland
Neil Finnie, Development Director at Buccleuch Property said: "We are delighted to be developing this convenience offer for our park occupiers which will also be of benefit to the wider local community. The strategic location of Shawfair along with its ease of connectivity should ensure both the Coop retail store and IONITY EV charging facilities are used extensively."
IONITY's Country Manager of UK and Ireland, Andreas Atkins commented: "Providing the local community and those travelling to and from Edinburgh with 100% renewable energy is another key step for us to providing easy access to charging, providing a positive contribution to the overall goal of decarbonisation across the UK and Europe."
Robert Wilson, Commercial Director for the Principal Contractor KPS Ltd commented: "We look forward to delivering this exciting development at Shawfair Business Park for Buccleuch Property. KPS are a forward thinking and innovative business and acknowledge the importance that developments with a reliable EV charging network can make to sustainable transport."
