Network Rail Announces £12.6m Programme Of Works

Construction News Image
Network Rail has announced a £12.6 million programme of works across the Scottish rail network over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Various projects are to be carried out between Saturday 30 March and Monday 1 April to make the railway infrastructure and services more reliable.

While most of the work won't cause any disruption to those travelling by train over the bank holiday, passengers are being advised to plan ahead for some disruption.

On the West Coast Main Line engineers will be renewing the track throughout Saturday 30 March and Sunday 31 March between Shieldmuir Junction and Motherwell.

Work will also take place between Rutherglen and Glasgow Central throughout Saturday 30 March, Sunday 31 March and Monday 1 April to renew points, switches and crossings which allow trains to cross from one track to another.

During the work, some Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, LNER, Caledonian Sleeper and ScotRail services will be affected, and passengers should check with their train operator before travelling.

At the same time, the bridge over the railway on Shields Road in Glasgow will be demolished, though passenger services won't be affected.

Liam Sumpter, route director, Network Rail Scotland said: "I'm pleased that most of Scotland's Railway network will remain open during the Easter bank holiday.

"We know how important Easter is for families and friends to catch up and, while there's never a good time to do the work we need to do, the bank holiday is a time when fewer people travel, giving us the opportunity to do work we couldn't do on a normal weekend.

"Our thanks go to passengers, freight users and our lineside neighbours for their patience during these works."

For full details of engineering works this Easter, passengers are advised to check their journeys with their operators or at National Rail.
