BEAR Scotland has been appointed to carry out a £420,000 road safety improvement works on the A835, South of Gave, on behalf of Transport Scotland.
The project will be done in two phases, with the first phase scheduled to begin on Monday 12 February and last for up to twelve weeks. Works will take place on Mondays to Fridays between 7am and 6pm. Continuous traffic lights will be in place to protect road workers as well as motorists during the improvements, with a temporary 30mph limit in place. The second phase will take place later in 2024/25, with dates to be confirmed.
The project will involve installing approximately 810m of safety barriers to protect motorists as well as trains on the nearby railway line. In addition, new drainage, carriageway resurfacing, road markings, fencing and improvements to adjacent private level crossings will be installed to improve safety on the A835 for all road users.
BEAR Scotland has been working with all relevant stakeholders to inform them of the project and share information about the traffic managements that will be in place.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative, said: "Road safety is a top priority at BEAR, and the new barriers and other improvements on the A835 will make a real difference, helping protect both road and rail users.
"The traffic management arrangements are essential for the protection of both our workforce as well as motorists, so we encourage all road users to follow any signs or temporary arrangements in place and our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.
"We encourage all road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date journey information."
