Clark Contracts successfully prioritised best practice health and safety procedures throughout 2023, highlighted at its Annual Health and Safety Awards Ceremony, held in Braehead in late December,
Clark's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Manager, Gordon MacKenzie, hosted the event, which was attended by all the firm's project teams. During the ceremony, an overview of the company's health and safety performance over the past year was provided, highlighting examples of best practice and any common issues, to minimise reoccurrence.
The HSEQ team carry out fortnightly audits on all sites, recording compliance and beyond compliance, as well as any issues relating to health, safety, and the environment, which must be rectified.
Prizes are then presented to the project teams and individuals recording the highest compliance rates in their audits throughout the year, and to those who go beyond the minimum standards by implementing innovative techniques.
The awards handed out at the annual ceremony included:
• '4th Quarter Divisional Health and Safety Awards'
• 'Project of the Year'
• 'Contracts Manager of the Year'
Throughout the year, at the end of each quarter, awards are presented to the highest performing project teams from our Construction, Small Works and Fit Out Divisions. During the awards ceremony, the fourth quarter awards were presented to the best performing teams from each of our divisions, before moving on to the annual awards.
The prestigious 'Project of the Year' award was presented to Clark Site Manager, who has been delivering our £2m construction of a new office pavilion within Annickbank Innovation Campus for North Ayrshire Council.
This individual was selected due to demonstrating consistently high performance throughout the year, with a 99% compliance rate, and the development of innovative, beyond compliance practices.
The Contracts Manager of the Year award was presented to a Contracts Manager from our Small Works Division, who achieved a compliance percentage of 99.5% across 48 audits completed on 10 projects.
The awards are a key part of our health and safety culture which has supported our success in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)'s annual awards. In 2023 we were presented with a third consecutive Order of Distinction following 17 Gold Medal awards.
