North of Scotland high voltage electricity network operator, Perth-based SSEN Transmission, has won three awards at this year's IAM Asset Management Excellence Awards in London.
Hosted by the Institute of Asset Management (IAM), the annual event takes place to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding work carried out by asset management professionals, organisations, and teams across the world.
SSEN Transmission's Asset Management and Operations team work round the clock to ensure the transmission network assets are functioning safely, recorded accurately and maintained to the highest standard, and includes everything from equipment to overhead lines to cables and substations. With a network which spans across a quarter of the UK's land mass, accurate asset management is key to ensure a safe and reliable electricity transmission network.
SSEN Transmission Director of Operations Dave McKay took home the prestigious McKeown Award for Individual Achievement, honouring both his personal contribution to developing asset management capabilities within the business and recognising his own individual journey in the profession, and overcame nominees from Colombia, Canada and Dubai to win.
In addition, SSEN Transmission's Head of Asset Management, Brian Addison, was also awarded the President's Award for Exceptional Service after leading on a portfolio of work with the Global Forum for Maintenance & Asset Management.
On top of that, the SSEN Transmission team also brought home the Corporate Transformation Award, highlighting the corporate journey and excellence displayed in progressing asset management competence.
Director of Asset Management & Operations for SSEN Transmission, Dave McKay, said:
"I am extremely proud to have won the McKeown Award from a personal point of view, but to have also brought home the Corporate Transformation Award is testament to the hard-work and dedication that the team have shown over the past few years.
"An individual award is rarely about one person – it reflects the work done by the wider Transmission business, not just me or the Asset Management team. It's about how we are moving towards a longer term, asset-management based view of how we operate.
"It sounds simple but it takes a change of mindset and a lot of effort. I've certainly seen the positive steps we've made in being clear on our purpose, having a clear set of business objectives, developing our staff and understanding the value and benefits we can get from our assets.
"Winning the team award was probably the highlight of the night as it really does recognise the effort the business has made in developing our wider capabilities in asset management.
"Brian being awarded the President's Award for Exceptional Service capped off a very successful evening for us. I see first-hand the effort and pride Brian has in his team and the wider Asset Management profession and receiving the award acknowledges that.
"There is a tremendous amount of work going on in Transmission, and to be recognised for our efforts at a global event such as this is a huge honour.
"But it doesn't stop here. We need to keep improving and striving towards our stated aim of world class asset management."
