Morrison Construction's Building Highland has been award a contract worth £5 million for the renovation of the historic Northern Meeting Park in Inverness.
The project will see the creation of a new pavilion building, as well as refurbishment of the existing 19th century grandstand, which was originally built in 1864 as the world's first purpose-built Highland Games stadium.
In addition to this, the existing concession hut and toilet blocks will be demolished, paving the way for the creation of new public toilets on the site and a ground source heat pump installation will provide sustainable energy for the facility.
The work is being carried out on behalf of Highland Council, with the works expected to last for the next year.
The Highland Council's Inverness City and Area Leader Councillor Ian Brown, and Co-Chair of the Levelling Up Fund Programme Board, said: "We are delighted to be working with Morrison Construction to progress with the refurbishments at the Northern Meeting Park in Inverness, and in doing so, delivering on our commitments to work with local companies where possible.
"We need to reduce our carbon emissions to contribute to Scotland's climate targets. It's a huge task but once completed this project will leave a positive environmental legacy for our Highland communities."
Donald McLachlan, Managing Director for Morrison Construction Highland, commented: "This will be a fantastic project and opportunity for us to create a standout facility for the people of the Highlands, while protecting and refurbishing the existing historical buildings.
"I look forward to the works starting in Inverness, and I am confident the team will once again prove our dedication to quality."
