COSLA has announced its aim to further enhance its green credentials by gaining Green Tourism's 'Green Meetings' Accreditation for its Verity House Conference Centre.
Announcing the intention, COSLA President Councillor Shona Morrison said: "We have a fabulous Conference Centre in the heart of Edinburgh which can cater for all types of events from small meetings to annual conferences.
"Our occupancy levels are thankfully now back up to pre covid levels and we cater for over 2000 events annually – so it is vital that we as a Conference Centre continue to get our already substantial 'Green' offering right.
"Our application is just being finalised and will be submitted in the next couple of weeks as we strive to achieve the 'Green Meetings' Accreditation which we hope to secure before the end of this Calendar Year.
"The COSLA Conference Centre already has fantastic and wide-ranging Green credentials such as a range of public transport options nearby; we recycle everything from our paper, plastic, glass, and food waste through to our famous COSLA pens which are 100 % recyclable. In addition, we only work with local suppliers, for conference food and beverage, who also value sustainability at their heart. Earlier this year we invested in new technology to enhance our hybrid offering in our larger conference room, for events who choose to limit attendees' travel, and in turn, their carbon footprint.
"However, we are not ones to rest on our laurels and achieving 'Green Meetings' accreditation would further improve our already substantial green credentials offering to all our clients in Verity and all those who use our wonderful facility."
