Aberdeen City Council is set to progress the development of the new Hazelhead Academy, following the allocation of funding from the Scottish Government.

Council staff successfully applied for the funding in the third phase of the Scottish Government and COSLA's Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP) which provides upfront investment for the delivery of new or refurbished school buildings.

The third phase of the funding which is worth £450million-£500million has been awarded to 10 local authorities: Aberdeen, Argyll and Bute, Clackmannanshire, East Dunbartonshire, Falkirk, Moray, North Lanarkshire, Orkney, Shetland and West Lothian.

The additional support will help us make a positive difference for generations to come. We want the best possible school buildings for young people across Aberdeen."

Councillor Jessica Mennie, Vice-Convener of the Education and Children's Services committee, said: "This is really good news for the pupils and staff at Hazlehead Academy and for the wider local community.

"The Scottish Government's LEIP funding is a hugely important resource in helping to ensure that we deliver the best school buildings possible for our young people.
