Hillcrest's Upper Dens Mill development has achieved a prestigious Dundee Civic Trust's 50th Anniversary Award.

At the first awards event held since 2019, Hillcrest also received a commendation for their Ellengowan regeneration.

Upper Dens Mill secured one of three 50th Anniversary Awards for buildings not previously considered due to Covid, with the judges praising it's attractive regeneration from a mid-1800's mill into modern apartments.

These three awards were presented retrospectively, covering the three years from 2020 – 2022 that the Dundee Civic Trust Awards were not able to run.

The Ellengowan regeneration, which was highly commended in this years' category, sought to replace 128 old terraced homes, which had long outlived their intended lifespan, with 130 new energy-efficient homes at Ellengowan Drive in Dundee. The first phase of the regeneration was completed earlier this year.

Judges at the awards commended the extensive public consultation that had taken place, as well as the efforts taken not just to create energy efficient and comfortable new homes, but also a lasting community.

In presenting the commendation, the judges noted: "The new Ellengowan is a worthy replacement for the old pre-war development, which was irreparable."
