Recycl8 has successfully carried out the first industry pour of its low carbon sustainable R8 Mix concrete made with recycled materials, in partnership with Breedon Group, marking a significant milestone in the Aberdeenshire-based firm's journey to market.
Comprising Recycl8's pioneering R8 Mix along with blended cement and aggregate, the concrete was supplied to civil engineering and construction firm, W M Donald, for installation on a housing foundation on Barratt and David Wilson Homes' new Huntingtower development in Perth, Scotland.
Mark Gillespie, CEO of Recycl8, said: "We are thrilled to be part of this landmark pour in partnership with Breedon Group, bringing our patented solution to market to provide sustainable, low carbon, Circular Economy concrete for building work on a live project.
"Not only does it have a significantly lower embodied carbon than traditional mixes, but it also gives new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded, reducing the reliance on virgin quarried materials. We believe that this is the future of sustainable construction."
Craig Godsman, Commercial Manager at Breedon, added: "We are really pleased to be involved in this innovative project using Recycl8's sustainable R8 Mix concrete technology. It aligns perfectly with our commitment to decarbonisation, with the provision of lower carbon solutions through our Breedon Balance range of products."
Managing Director of Barratt and David Wilson Homes, David Palmer, also said: "We are committed to sustainable construction and reducing our environmental impact. We are excited to see Recycl8's innovative low carbon R8 Mix concrete used by Breedon on our new Huntingtower project in Perthshire as part of that commitment."
The global construction industry is currently tackling the challenge of decarbonisation in order to meet the NetZero target by 2050, while simultaneously striving to meet demand for the ever-growing built environment.
Recycl8 and Breedon are planning to work together on more projects using the R8 Mix concrete technology, alongside the Breedon Balance range of products.
