Morrison Construction has announced the successful completion of the £12 million Arbroath (Brothock Water) Flood Protection Scheme. with Minister for Transport, Net Zero and Just Transition, Máiri McAllan, officially opening the facility at a ceremony at St Vigeans.

The scheme was designed to reduce the risk of flooding in Arbroath, and saw the implementation of three attenuation structures and 39 other areas of protection created along the Brothock Water River.

Raised embankments and flow controls were also used to keep flood water above the natural ground level during flood events, which were specifically designed to restrict flows and retain the water within the storage areas.

The project was carried out as a part of strategic investment by Angus Council to protect the town of Arbroath from future flooding, a national priority under the Flood Risk Management Strategy, and was developed in partnership with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

Morrison Construction worked closely with the local supply chain and sponsored the Young Lichties (Arbroath Football Club), during the construction period with the aim of leaving a lasting legacy in the town.

Paul Ingham, Managing Director for Morrison Construction Asset Creation Scotland, commented: "We are delighted to have played our part in upgrading the local flood defences around Arbroath, giving the local community greater protection from adverse events and improving the civil infrastructure around the town for the benefit of all."
