North Ayrshire Council has granted planning permission for the development of a new educational and community campus in Ardrossan.

Part of the redevelopment of the North Shore site, the new campus will create a range of educational and leisure opportunities for residents in an innovative and sustainable building which will be open to the whole community.

The council's Planning Committee approved the proposals which would see the construction of a facility comprising early years, primary and secondary school with additional support needs at the former Shell site in Ardrossan.

The shared community facilities will also include a library, learning hub and indoor sports facilities including swimming pool, sports hall, gymnasium, dance studio & fitness studio, outdoor sports facilities including two sports pitches and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). There will also be and outdoor learning landscape, recreational spaces and growing spaces, along with associated parking and infrastructure

The application site is approx. 7.5ha in area, comprising some 60% of Ardrossan Coastal Quarter site.

Planning permission was granted in 2022 for the enabling works required to support the future development of the whole of North Shore.

Remediation of the site is due to start this month. Sanctus Ltd - who have worked on numerous brownfield and infrastructure projects across the UK– were awarded the contract to carry out the works earlier this year.

Councillor Shaun Macaulay, Cabinet Member for Education and Young People, said: "We are delighted to have reached this stage and are very excited about what promises to be a visionary facility for young people, staff and the whole community.

"We look forward to work starting once the remediation process and enabling works are complete and will continue to keep residents and all stakeholders informed as we move forward."
