North Lanarkshire Council has committed to delivering 2,570 new homes over the next five years, in an update to its Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) 2024/25-2028/29.

To help meet local housing need, new priorities have been identified and were approved at a recent Housing Committee. A further ten projects have now been added to the plan, taking the total number of homes being delivered to over 3,000.

The additional projects include:

Pentland School, Tay Street, Coatbridge – 16 homes

Dalzell Drive, Motherwell – 24 homes

Portland High School, Coatbridge – 16 homes

St Brigid's Primary School, Newmains - 35 homes

Prospectill Road, Ravenscraig – off the shelf – 23 homes

Springhill Road, Shotts – off the shelf – 22 homes

Castlecary Road, Cumbernauld (Link) - 43 homes

Chryston Bowling Club (CVHA) - 18 homes

Empty Homes Purchase Scheme – 250 homes

Convener of Housing, Councillor Michael McPake, said: "The plan highlights affordable housing investment priorities which support our Local Housing Strategy. These projects will deliver a range of housing to meet varied needs across the North Lanarkshire community and will support our plans to regenerate our communities and town centres.

"The projects range from new build council homes and homes delivered by other registered social landlords, to ‘off the shelf' purchases from private housing developers and by bringing empty homes across our community back into use.

"We're committed to delivering affordable, environmentally friendly and accessible housing with our partners, as part of our aspiration to make North Lanarkshire the place to live."

The SHIP will be submitted to the Scottish Government next month. It forms the basis of the Scottish Government's Affordable Housing Supply Programme, which is administered by the Scottish Government and provides grant funding for the council's and housing associations' new supply programmes.
