West Lothian Council Approves New 25 Year Community Benefit Lease

Construction News Image
West Lothian Council has approved a new 25 year community benefit lease of the bowling pavilion and green at Torphichen Street, Bathgate to Glenmavis Bowling Club.

Glenmavis Bowling Club has operated from the council owned bowling pavilion and green since the 1950's. GBC currently has around 80 playing members and a further 50 associate members. GBC approached the council with a request to extend their current lease period in order to safeguard the club's long-term future and, as a result of the increased security that an extended lease period would bring, support their ability to make funding applications to external funders.

West Lothian Council has also granted consent for a 15 year lease extension for the Scottish Owl Centre premises at Polkemmet Country Park.

The current lease was not due to expire until December 2026 however the tenant is keen to secure a longer term lease for the continuation of the business as well as increasing potential to gain access to funding streams.

Leader of West Lothian Council Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: "It is in the best interests of both lease holders and the council to extend these leases and we are happy to agree to these extensions. Both are very popular and provide important facilities for their customers."
