10-Week Programme Of Bridge Repair Works In West Lothian

Construction News Image
West Lothian Council has announced a 10-week programme of vital maintenance works for six bridges in Livingston.

The bridges involved are located at:

• A71 Bankton Road at Crofthead Interchange;

• Almondvale Road between Almondvale Road Roundabout and Retail Park Roundabout (near ALDI store);

• A899 Livingston Road (dual carriageway) at Centre Interchange;

• A899 Livingston Road at Centre Interchange.

The work will include replacing defective bridge joints, deck repairs and carriageway resurfacing works to ensure the bridges remain safe for the future.

A rolling programme will take place between Monday 31 July and Friday 6 October, with work being completed on one bridge before moving onto the next to minimise disruption. The work is being carried out by Chemcem (Scotland) Ltd on behalf of the council.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: "We would like to make sure that Livingston residents and those who travel over these bridges are aware of these works in advance.

"The scale of these works means that some diversions and temporary traffic lights will be put in place to allow the essential repairs to be carried out safely.

"Those affected are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel."

The work at the A71 Bankton Road at Crofthead Interchange will start from 31 July for an estimated two weeks and is planned in two phases:

From Monday 31 July for approximately one week, a short section of the A71 Bankton Road will be closed at Crofthead Interchange to allow for the replacement of bridge joints. Traffic will be diverted via the Crofthead Interchange slip-roads.

From Monday 7 August for approximately one week, a short section of the A71 Bankton Road will be closed at Crofthead Interchange to allow for the replacement of bridge joints and carriageway resurfacing at the nearby Crofthead Interchange Underpass. Westbound traffic will be diverted via the Crofthead Interchange slip-roads. For eastbound traffic, the A71 Bankton Road will be closed at Newpark Roundabout (at Alderstone Road) and traffic will be diverted via Alderstone Road, Almondvale Road and the A899 Livingston Road towards Lizzie Brice's Roundabout to rejoin the A71.

Almondvale Road between Almondvale Road Roundabout and Retail Park Roundabout

The work on the Almondvale Road between Almondvale Road Roundabout and Retail Park Roundabout near ALDI store will start on Monday 14 August for an estimated two weeks.

Lane closures with temporary traffic lights will be used to manage traffic while a defective bridge joint is replaced at Dedridge North Bridge.

A899 Livingston Road at Centre Interchange

Work on the A899 Livingston Road at Centre Interchange is expected to start on Monday 28 August for an estimated two weeks.

A short section of the A899 Livingston Road at Centre Interchange will be closed in the northbound lanes to allow for the replacement of bridge joints and carriageway resurfacing.

Northbound traffic on the A899 will be put into a contraflow system for a short distance using the central reserve cross-over points and the southbound carriageway. It is intended that all interchange slip roads will remain open during these works.

A899 Livingston Road near Livingston East Roundabout at Deer Park

Work on the A899 Livingston Road near Livingston East Roundabout at Deer Park is expected to begin on Monday 11 September for an estimated four weeks.

This will allow work to safely take place on the replacement of bridge joints, carriageway resurfacing and the renewal of the anti-skid surface treatment at Nettlehill Railway Bridge, which is located just south of Livingston East Roundabout.

It will be necessary to reduce the carriageway approaching the roundabout from three traffic lanes down to one traffic lane, which will likely lead to traffic queuing and delays.
