Persimmon Homes has hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a new housing development on Dundee's Kingsway, marking the official start of construction works.
Robert Patrick, Land Director of Persimmon North Scotland, and Cllr. Mark Flynn, Convenor of Dundee City Development, jointly broke ground for the new neighbourhood. The two took a tour of the former site of Stewart's Cream of the Barley's bottling facility to discuss the home builder's plans to transform the site into much-needed new homes.
In the Stewarts Loan development by Persimmon, 71 brand-new, energy-efficient homes with both three and four bedrooms will be constructed. With work underway, the first new homes are expected to be occupied by early 2024.
Robert Patrick, Persimmon North Scotland Land Director, said: "We are delighted that work on this new, much-needed housing development is now underway. Not only will Stewarts Loan deliver 71 energy-efficient new homes, but it will also create jobs and generate investment in the local economy.
"We're committed to creating vibrant, successful communities, and with nearly half of our customers being first-time buyers, we're proud to be supporting more local families onto the housing ladder."
Mark Flynn convener of Dundee City Council's neighbourhood regeneration, housing and estate management said: "Provision of safe, comfortable homes across the board is vitally important towards achieving the city's goal of creating strong communities where people feel empowered, safe and proud to live.
"The only way to do that successfully is in partnership with developers, as well as with other social landlords, which is why it is great to see a former industrial site in such a prominent location being developed into a new community."
