The £1.5 million Lochgilphead Front Green transformation project has been named a Gold Award winner in the public realm and landscaping category at the Scottish Design Awards.

Led by design consultants Erz, the project resulted in transforming the area to include a new play park and additional seating areas with walking and cycling facilities. Historically prone to flooding, the Front Green was raised with new drainage and landscaping to help ease the flow of water.


The Scottish Design Award is the second award for Front Green after previously winning the Streets and Spaces category at the Scotland Loves Local Awards.

Speaking about the award, Councillor Alastair Redman, Policy Lead for Economic Growth and Communities: "Congratulations to everyone involved with the Front Green transformation. Working with the community, we wanted to deliver a large community space that offered recreation opportunities and the capacity to hold events.

"I'm sure everyone agrees that it is a fantastic asset for the town and continues to attract residents and visitors to the area. Investing in the town has created a real buzz that has opened up future opportunities to help support the local economy."
