Whiteburn Projects Secures Permission For Lauder Development

Construction News Image
Whiteburn Projects has secured planning permission for the development of 110 new build homes in the north of Lauder.

As part of its overall vision for this development, the team at Whiteburn will provide a range of residential homes offering a mix of three and four bedroom homes for sale, including 25% affordable homes to rent that will be delivered with Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA).

The Whiteburn team has developed a range of homes to suit the site’s location, which includes homes with ground-floor bedrooms and bathrooms. Director of Design and Delivery, Roger Bainbridge explained: "We are delighted with the unanimous decision by the members of the planning committee today who were impressed by our track record in providing an award-winning development at Caerlee Mill in Innerleithen.  We have designed house types to give owners the flexibility of living in a new home at Allanbank at whatever stage of life, and we sought to blend a palette of both traditional and contemporary materials for this new neighbourhood of Lauder.

"Our vision for Allanbank also retains the existing woodland shelter belt around the perimeter of the site, giving a fantastic natural frame to the development which is accessed from Stow Road. Our designs fully encompass Designing Streets to create an urban framework of shared surface streets, footpaths, and green corridors. Our landscape will also encourage wildlife and pollinators creating a naturally great place to call home."

Managing Director, Eve McCurrich added: "Our team is thrilled to have secured such an overwhelmingly positive reaction by the planning committee to our plans for Allanbank, and we are excited to be returning to build in the Borders. Lauder is a fantastic town to live in, and we believe that our new homes will both support the local economy and contribute to secondary spend in local shops and businesses. We have already received a high level of interest from local people looking to buy a new home in Lauder.

"In fact, Toria Jones, our Client Liaison Manager has already welcomed potential Lauder purchasers at our sales and show home at Viewforth, Kirkcaldy. We’re naturally delighted that there is already excitement and a buzz from buyers looking to become the owner of a Whiteburn home in Lauder.

"The unanimous approval at the planning committee means that we can now move forward with our formal technical consents, and we would expect to be in a position to commence works on site by the end of the year."

Emma Garry, Director of Development for SBHA added: "SBHA are delighted to be working with Whiteburn to deliver the affordable housing at Allanbank. These homes will respond to the high levels of need for affordable homes in Lauder and positively contribute to the overall tenure mix within the development.

"The new homes will be delivered with Net Zero technology and provide great places for people to live in the heart of the community. We look forward to seeing these homes take shape over coming months and welcoming new tenants upon completion."

Whiteburn Projects is a member of the Considerate Constructor Scheme and is fully committed to a programme of engagement with local communities and key stakeholders throughout the lifetime of its developments. Its programme of community engagement for the Allanbank development has included discussions with Scottish Borders Council regarding a range of Section 75 community benefits, as well as two public consultation events.
