BEAR Scotland has announced a programme of resurfacing improvement works for the A82 Glenurquhart Road in Inverness, from Sunday 21 May.

The £200,000 investment will see a 640m stretch of worn-out carriageway replaced, helping ensure that the A82 continues to operate safely for years to come.

The project is scheduled to take place over five nights, from Sunday 21 to Friday 26 May, between 8pm and 6am. It will be completed by 6am on Friday 26 May, subject to weather conditions.

Due to the nature of the works, there will be a full road closure each night to protect roadworkers and motorists. A signed diversion route will in place. Access from local roads on to the A82 will also be restricuted and local signed diversions will be in place.

• A82 northbound diversion: traffic will be diverted from the A82 at Torvean Roundabout onto General Booth Road/King Brude Road, then onto the A862 to A82 Telford Street Roundabout. Traffic will then continue to destination.

• A82 southbound diversion: traffic will be diverted along the A82 to Telford Roundabout, then onto the A862 and turning into General Booth Road/King Brude Road, then onto A82 at Torvean Roundabout. Traffic will then continue to destination.

The A82 will be open outwith working hours to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for local residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative said: "These works on the A82 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

"The overnight closures are essential for the safety of road workers and motorists. We've taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and by providing a signed diversion for traffic to follow.

"Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information."
