Construction News Image
Seagreen Wind Energy has hosted students from North East Scotland College (NESCol) studying on the ECITB Wind Turbine Scholarship programme, at their Montrose Operations & Maintenance Base.

The scholars, along with guests from the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) and the Energy Transition Zone (ETZ) all enjoyed a fun and engaging morning on site.

Activities included a tour around the new Seagreen purpose-built Service Operations Vessel, the Edda Brint, as well as a presentation about Seagreen which included information on jobs and what to expect from a typical day offshore. The Scholars also got to experience a trip to the Marine Control Centre where they got to see first-hand how everything is controlled and managed offshore to ensure the safety and co-ordination of the high numbers of teams from many different companies.

The ECITB is working in partnership with NESCol and the ETZ offering an excellent opportunity for aspiring engineers of the future that wish to pursue a career within the Engineering Construction Industry (ECI).

The programme, which is delivered out of North East Scotland College's Altens Campus in Aberdeen, is primarily aimed at those seeking employment in the wind sector although suitable for any ECI sector, the ECITB's Wind Turbine Technician Pathway is a two-year course that will support learners to pursue a full time off the job programme and become qualified in both Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance. To support the learners during their studies, they receive a learner allowance of £100 a week during term time. For more information on courses you can click here.

Pauline Allison, Stakeholder Engagement Manager for Seagreen, said: "It was great to see so many Wind Turbine Scholars from North East Scotland College as well as guests from the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) and the Energy Transition Zone (ETZ) attend Seagreen's Montrose Operations & Maintenance Base on Wednesday.

"We are always keen to support those that are looking to be part of the future workforce within the renewable energy industry and to provide guests with interactive presentations about offshore operations as well as getting onboard an offshore operations vessel. We hope they enjoyed their day and learned something new."
