Following the completion of the final phase of the construction work at Prestwick North Education Campus, the new facility has been handed over to South Ayrshire Council.
Glenburn Primary, St Ninian's Primary and the new Prestwick North Early Years Centre moved into the new buildings in August last year, and their new all-weather pitch was completed just before Christmas. This final phase of work handed over completes the remaining external areas, including the rest of the playground and the staff car park.
The £20m project was delivered by South Ayrshire Council's development partner hub South West Scotland, with their construction partner Morgan Sindall.
Designed by BDP architects, the design of the buildings has created inspiring modern spaces for teaching and learning, and this final phase of work now puts the buildings in their intended setting. The playground provides an exciting and varied environment for play and for learning, including an allotment garden an amphitheatre and tunnels below grass mounds.
The buildings are designed to be highly energy efficient, incorporating large numbers of solar panels, heat pumps and other sustainable measures, as well as a highly insulated envelope. Data on the building's performance so far indicates that energy consumption has decreased by 61%, when comparing the new campus with the two schools it replaced.
A formal opening ceremony will be held for the new campus in June 2023.
Councillor Stephen Ferry, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Education said: "Prestwick North Educational Campus is providing pupils and staff with a modern and engaging environment for learning. We're continuing the transformation of learning in South Ayrshire with our school build programme, and I'd like to extend my thanks to everyone involved in making this project a huge success. I know pupils are thriving in their new environment."
Stuart Parker, managing director of Morgan Sindall's Scotland team, said: "We are delighted to handover the keys to Prestwick North Education Campus after completing the final phase of external works. Our team, including our invaluable local supply chain, have worked tirelessly on this development and thanks to a shared vision with our project partners, we have created a sustainable and inspiring state-of-the-art place to learn."
