Persimmon Homes has submitted a planning application for a major new housing development in North Tyneside, comprising of up to 2,700 new homes.
The proposals would see a new metro station, two-form entry primary school and retail centre delivered alongside a mix of new houses.
An initial phase of 508 homes will be delivered with an accompanying spine road, road bridge, associated highways infrastructure and landscaping, with outline planning persimmon sought for the remaining 2,192 homes.
Allocated for housing within the Local Plan, Murton Park also represents a key site within the North Tyneside Plan that aims to create jobs, provide good quality homes and support investment in education and community facilities.
Set amongst a newly designed 143 acre country park, Murton Park will provide a mix of housing types, tenures and sizes for local families, first-time buyers and downsizers.
All homes on the development will meet the new future homes standard and nationally defined space standards with EV charging points at all properties.
A new comprehensive cycle and footpath network will help encourage active travel while a new spine road and metro station will enable greater connectivity to both the coast and Newcastle city centre.
Richard Cook, Land Director for Persimmon North East said: "We're delighted to be working with North Tyneside Council on the exciting plans for Murton Park.
"This site was selected as an integral part of the North Tyneside Plan and will serve as a flagship for sustainability in both design and location.
"Following consultation with residents over recent months, members of the public can now submit any comments via the Council's planning portal.
"We look forward to working with the Council, local residents and stakeholders to progress these exciting plans that will support the Council's ambition to make North Tyneside an even greater place to live, work and raise a family."
