BEAR Scotland has announced a programme of road surface improvement works for the A1, over a period of 15 nights in April.
The works will see Transport Scotland's operating company BEAR Scotland resurface a combined 1.5km of carriageway, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the A1 will be closed at Spott Roundabout southbound from 3 to 7 April, and at Lemington southbound from 17 to 28 April.
No works are currently planned to be undertaken at the weekend.
Monday 3rd to Friday 7th April – Road closure with a signed diversion. Traffic will be diverted off the A1 between Thistly Cross Roundabout and Broxburn Junction via the A119 then onto the A1087 towards Summerfield Road then to Queens Road before going back to the A1087. This diversion will add approximately 5.0 miles and 12 minutes to affected journeys.
Monday 17th to Friday 28th April – Road closure with a signed diversion. Traffic will be diverted off the A1 between Tower Farm junction and Eyemouth Junction via the A1107 then to Coldingham towards Eyemouth before going back onto the A1107. This diversion will add approximately 1.2 miles and 8 minutes to affected journeys.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: "The surfacing improvements will help to address any defects on this section of the A1.
"We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out this project. We will do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible."
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.
Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
