Green Home Systems has been appointed to deliver energy saving measures to residents across four separate local authority areas as part of a national fuel poverty scheme.
The energy efficiency specialist was awarded first place for their quality and commercial submissions across all lots of the publicly procured ECO4 Flex Schemes Framework which is being managed by Scarf. The contract will bring Green Home Systems into partnership with four local authorities across the North East of Scotland: Aberdeen City Council, Angus Council, Dundee City Council, and Perth & Kinross Council.
Scarf is a charity that provides energy saving advice to help households lower their fuel bills and is acting on behalf of the participating councils to manage their ECO4 Flex schemes. Scarf will facilitate applications by households seeking to access free and low cost energy efficiency measures such insulation, renewable heating and solar panels, and Green Home Systems will work alongside them to identify applicants, allocate funding and deliver the projects.
The framework contract runs for three years until 2026 and in tandem with the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) programme, which is the UK Government’s flagship energy efficiency policy. ECO4 aims to tackle fuel poverty and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from homes throughout the UK by providing free or heavily subsidised energy efficient home improvements, and the guidelines permit each local authority to develop its own eligibility criteria for applicants called "ECO Flex". This means that councils can assist fuel poor residents by developing bespoke eligibility routes that best serve the local population.
Green Home Systems has considerable experience delivering ECO energy saving measures to households across Scotland. It is an accredited energy efficiency specialist holding multiple industry qualifications and provides a wide range of energy efficiency services including thermal insulation, smart heating systems, renewable energy technologies and electric vehicle charge points. Established in 2014, the company has completed over 16,500 energy efficiency projects, lifted over 7,000 families out of fuel poverty and prevented more than 500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
This contract win comes on the back of Green Home Systems successful delivery of a £1M ECO4 trial which saw the average energy bill of participating households fall by £2,079 per per year. Following the upgrades each home achieved the top Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of A or B, and a total of 120 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year was abated. Each home was upgraded to the highest retrofit specifications as set out by the government-recognised PAS2030/35 and Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) installation standards, and quality assurance was provided by TrustMark, the UK Government’s only endorsed quality scheme for work carried out in or around domestic homes.
Graeme Kerr, Sales Director at Green Home Systems, said: "This new contract will allow Green Home Systems to build on the success of our recent trial and deliver energy efficiency upgrades to even more households. Scarf is a well-respected energy efficiency charity and we are very proud to have been appointed to work alongside them to alleviate fuel poverty across the four participating local authority areas."
