An innovative tenement retrofit project in the southside of Glasgow from John Gilbert Architects has been shortlisted for a prestigious sustainability award.
The Alliance for Sustainable Building Products is a non-profit organisation that has member companies that collaborate on a common goal of increasing the quality, health and sustainability of the built environment through the identification, development and specification of better products and systems.
Their 5th annual awards will be held in February 2023 and a development that has been shortlisted in the Project category is Niddrie Road. Located in the southside of Glasgow, the project involved the retrofit of eight properties within an end-terrace of a traditional tenement to an advanced standard of thermal performance through a combination of fabric enhancement and low-carbon heating systems.
The 2022 GIA Award-winning project was undertaken as a pilot with support from Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Funding Council and is now managed by Southside Housing Association. Each property will now be monitored for a 1-year duration in order to monitor the occupant’s energy use with the aim of utilising data to support the future upgrade of the 74,000 tenement properties.
