Linear Design & Construct has secured its first project on behalf of East Dunbartonshire Council, following its recent appointment by hub West Scotland.
This inaugural contract will see the team undertake the comprehensive refurbishment of Brookwood Villa in Bearsden to create a new community facility. The project will involve the extensive refurbishment and restoration of the existing Victorian blonde sandstone building to create a community use facility that will accommodate a number of activities, including nursery and after school provision.
Once completed, it has been agreed in principle (subject to finalisation of the lease) that Brookwood Villa will be run by the Brookwood Community Trust on a long-term basis, who will assume responsibility for the management and operation of the venue.
In addition to the internal refurbishment works, the LDC team will deliver external works to the windows and roof, as well as landscaping to the back of the building to provide enhanced outdoor space.
Ryan Broadley, Managing Director of LDC Scotland, said: "We’re delighted to have been appointed by hub West Scotland as a long term partner and to have secured our first job, which will provide a significant facility for the local community. We were able to showcase our experience and expertise in the refurbishment of these types of properties, further supported by our previous work across both community and education projects, making us the ideal partner for this project. We are looking forward to collaborating with such a high calibre team to deliver this enhanced property to the benefit of the local community."
Iain Marley, Chief Executive Officer of hub West Scotland said: "The project will significantly enhance nursery services and support a wide range of community uses. The investment will also deliver significant benefits to local communities including support to local SMEs, engagement with the local community and academic institutions and employment and educational opportunities including apprenticeships, recruitment and trainings. We are pleased to be working with LDC and look forward to seeing the rejuvenation of this well-known property."
Working in collaboration with a talented design and delivery team of architects Holmes Miller, structural engineer Will Rudd and M&E specialists Baker Hicks, LDC are engaged with the partnership team to kick off the project with an anticipated practical completion of June 2023.
