The NFRC has held its Scottish Roofing Awards to celebrate a selection of the best of roofing, cladding and rainscreen projects in Scotland.
This was the return of the event after the awards for the last two years could not go ahead due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The judges rewarded standout projects for quality workmanship, innovation, strong supply chain management and impressive responses to challenges on the project.
The awards were presented to winners by comedian and presenter Fred MacAulay. The winners in each category were as follows:
Roof Slating:
• Southwest Roofing Services Ltd for Craig House
The judges were impressed by the traditional detailing used, particularly the leadwork replacements and repairs.
Roof Tiling:
• Ferguson Kellock Ltd for West Boat House
This project was recognised in part due to the very clean and level roof lines despite initial challenges.
Reinforced Bitumen Membrane:
• BriggsAmasco for Diamond Offshore Drilling
This was an impressive example of technical innovation to find a solution for the client.
Single Ply:
Ashton Building Systems (Scotland) Ltd for 53 Hutcheson Street
The judges were impressed by the level of workmanship on this project, particularly the skilful detailing.
Liquid Applied and Mastic Asphalt Membrane:
• BriggsAmasco for Skypark
This project was hailed as an excellent example of how technologies in our industry continue to deliver improvements in performance, delivery, cost saving and sustainability targets.
External Cladding/Rainscreen:
• Procladd (Scotland) Ltd for Ineos
The aesthetics of this project upon completion impressively complemented the surrounding architecture.
Roof Sheeting:
• Pro Industrial Roofing and Cladding for Forth House
The judges recognised how well this roof work had added a modern twist to a traditionally constructed property, whilst staying true to the building by referencing traditional detailing.
Fully Supported Metal:
• Curtis Moore (Cladding Systems) Ltd for Glasgow Science Centre
This project met the challenge of a technically complex re-cladding project on an occupied building.
NFRC Services to the Community Award:
• DMG Services Group
The award was given in recognition of the DMG Academy, which trains the next generation of tradespeople.
Safety, Health and Environment Award:
• HLS McConnell Ltd
McConnell's commitment to safety, health and environment have been recognised with numerous Health and Safety accreditations.
Supply Chain Partner of the Year:

Donald was recognised for doing everything he could to continue to secure materials for a long-standing NFRC Trade Member which experienced temporary cashflow issues.
Roofing Apprentice of the Year:
• Aaron Struthers-Semple and Kyle William Stoddart, Compass Roofing
Aaron and Kyle were recognised for their hard work in honing their skills, working towards becoming part of the next generation of professional tradespeople.
Scott J Miller MIoR, NFRC Scotland Chair, said: "It's brilliant to return to celebrating great achievement in the Scottish roofing industry after two years away. The awards luncheon was a very enjoyable occasion and it was wonderful to be reunited with contractors, suppliers and merchants at an event dedicated to recognising the brilliant work they do."
He added: "Entries were of a very high standard this year, and we know that far more great work in the industry occurs than we can recognise every year—so to those that missed out this time, please do enter next year. We're looking forward already to seeing the great work you do in the coming year."
