BEAR Scotland To Begin A82 Improvement Works

Construction News Image
BEAR Scotland have announced a programme of essential road surface improvement works on the A82 at Craig Dunain.

The project will see 809 metres of the A82 near Craig Dunain resurfaced, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

Works will take eight nights to complete, with works taking place between the hours of 7.30pm and 6.30am.

No works will take place on Friday and Saturday nights. As such, works will start on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th October for two nights, and then restart for five nights from Sunday 30th October to Thursday 3rd November, and will conclude with one night of works over Sunday 6th November. All works are anticipated to be complete by 6.30am Monday 7th November, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours. The convoy system will be removed and no traffic management will be in place on Friday or Saturday. A 30mph speed limit will be in place outwith working hours as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

On the nights the work is taking place, the Craig Dunain junction will be closed to allow the nearby surfacing work to be carried out effectively and safely. A diversion via Forester’s Way, Leachkin Road and General Booth Road to Torvean roundabout will be in place. From the roundabout drivers can travel north or south, as they would at the junction. The junction will be open during the day from 6.30am, and on Friday and Saturday nights.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: "These maintenance works on the A82 at Craig Dunain will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.

"The use of convoy traffic management during working hours is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.

"We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information."

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
