North Ayrshire Council has announced plans for the largest Council house development in decades.
Draft plans have been published for more than 200 new modern and energy-efficient Council homes at the Ayrshire Central Hospital site in Irvine.
Local residents and interested members of the public can view the plans from online or in-person.
The proposals will see 202 properties developed on the site of the former maternity unit with a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes.
The development will include a mix of general needs properties along with homes for wheelchair users and amenity bungalows to meet a wide range of residents' needs.
Councillor Scott Davidson, Cabinet Member for Place at North Ayrshire Council, said: "We have committed to building 1,625 new homes across North Ayrshire by 2027, which is one of the biggest and most ambitious house building programmes in the country.
"This will be a flagship development and will see 202 new modern, affordable homes created in an area of high demand, making it by far the largest single development we have undertaken for many years.
"This is a well-known location as the site of the former maternity unit and I'm sure our plans to breathe new life into the area will be very welcome."
It is hoped that construction can start in spring 2023 on the project which will be supported by Scottish Government grant.
The draft plans are available to view online until Friday, 28 October, 2022, at: http://northayrshire.community/ayrshire-central-irvine-draft-plans-consultation/51384/
The Council is also holding a local, in-person event on Tuesday, 11 October, 2022. To book your place at the event or to make a virtual appointment to discuss the plans, please email developmentandstrategy@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or telephone 01294 324031 by Friday, 7 October, 2022.
