BEAR Scotland Set To Launch A82 Surface Works

Construction News Image
BEAR Scotland has announced a programme of surfacing improvement works on the A82 at An Torr and North of Loch Tulla Viewpoint, with works set to get underway on Monday 26 September on behalf of Transport Scotland.

The improvements will see over 1km of the A82 resurfaced between Tyndrum and Glencoe, creating a smoother and safer road surface for motorists.

The works are expected to take place over nine nights. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday nights and all works are expected to be complete by 7am on Friday 7 October, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, the traffic management will be in place as follows:

• A82 An Torr – Monday 26 September to Tuesday 4 October, 8pm – 5am

A temporary road closure will be in place during working hours each night. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A82, A828, and A85, adding an additional 24 miles/45 minutes for road users travelling between Tyndrum and Glencoe. To help minimise disruption to road users, the works will be suspended for short amnesty periods at 9pm, 10pm, 12am, 2am and 4am to allow traffic through and avoiding the need to divert.

Please note there is a height restriction on the A828 at Connel Bridge of 4.2m (13’9"). Vehicles exceeding this height should advance to the closure points on the A82 where they will be stacked until an amnesty period or when the road is reopened again.

• A82 North of Loch Tulla Viewpoint – Tuesday 4 to Friday 7th October, 7pm – 7am

The road will remain open at this location; however, a 10mph convoy system will be in place.

Outwith working hours, the A82 will be open to all vehicles; however, a 30mph speed limit will be in place as motorists will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Access to emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: "This surfacing project on the A82 will help to address defects and greatly improve the route for road users.

"The traffic management is essential to keep motorists and roadworkers safe and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

"We thank the local community and road users for their patience whilst we carry out these essential improvements. We encourage road users to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information."
