Network Rail has revealed concepts for the redevelopment of Troon Station to the local community at an event in the town.
The concepts presented offer three options for the redevelopment of platform one’s station building, following the fire which destroyed it in July 2021.
Option one is a reinstatement of the old building on a like-for-like basis using modern materials. The second is a reinstatement of the old building but with some changes e.g. size of building, access/egress arrangements. The third is a modern interpretation of the old building. Within each of these options the internal layout will be modern, with fit-for-purpose space for customers and staff.
At the community drop-in, the local people of Troon were given a first-look at the different concepts. It was well attended and sparked lots of positive discussion and feedback about the different concepts. The event also offered the locals the chance to ask the project team any questions they had on the designs, construction and timeline.
Following the opportunity for the community to comment, the feedback will be reviewed to inform the detailed design of a single option that will be taken forward. This proposal will be shared with the community again ahead of being submitted for planning approval and listed buildings consent needed to carry out the work. It is expected this will be in November.
The project is working towards completing construction of the station building in time for The Open golf tournament being held in Troon in July 2024.
Jo Noble, Network Rail's sponsor for the redevelopment project said: "The level of interest in the redevelopment of the station was phenomenal. We are grateful that he people of Troon took the time to come and see what we are proposing and to share their views with us.
"We are keen to get feedback, not only on the aesthetics of the designs but also on how people would like to see the internal space utilised to meet the needs of the station users and the wider community.
"We had some great comments, questions and suggestions and we look forward to receiving more feedback on our proposals in the coming weeks."
