Leslie Fraser has marked his 55th anniversary with Morrison Construction, celebrating with his colleagues at Highlife Highlands Rugby Club in Inverness.
71-year-old Leslie is the nephew of Morrison Construction founder Alex Morrison. Since 1967 Leslie has shown passion and dedication throughout the years and has seen significant changes to the construction industry. Not only to the Morrison Construction name that was formerly known as Morrison Builders, which was founded in the Scottish Highlands by his uncle in 1948, and was the biggest contractor company in Tain, but from an era that had no power tools, computers, phones or any other electrical or battery powered devices to help assist on site and in the workshop.
Working for what started as a family business means Leslie has shared his time at work with his father, cousins and friends since he started his apprenticeship at Morrison Construction, having left school at the age of 16. From building houses and working in different areas within the UK, Leslie has enjoyed different aspects to his job over the years, as each day presents a new challenge.
Looking back on his five decades with the company, Chargehand, Leslie expresses that his passion for the construction industry is still going strong. His best career advice to the next generation of aspiring tradesmen is to listen and not be afraid to ask for assistance.
Commenting on his journey, he shares two quotes that keep him inspired: "If you hire people just because they can do a job, they'll work for your money. But if you hire people that believe what you believe, they'll work for you with blood, sweat and tears," and "It doesn't matter how slowly you go as long as you don't stop."
