Argyll and Bute Council has announced £700,000 worth of improvement works in Ardrishaig, due to start early September.
The works include:
• A new lochside viewing area with additional seating and art work
• Improvements to the north car park including an expansion of disabled parking
• New waterfront signposting and artwork from the canal
• Reconfiguring of the memorial garden to include new seating areas, picnic benches and a path
• Improved accessibility for the Argyll Sea Kayak Trail making it easier for kayakers to go between Loch Fyne and the Crinan Canal.
The investment is part of wider regeneration initiatives already delivered in the area. They include enhanced facilities introduced for the local community and tourist visitors at Ardrishaig Harbour by Scottish Canals and upgrades of the Public and North Halls by the Ardrishaig Community Trust. Argyll and Bute Council has appointed P1 Solutions Ltd to deliver the scheme.
Construction timescales for the project will be available on the council website soon. Public toilets will remain open and alternative car parking is available during this time.
Councillor Robin Currie, Policy Lead for the Economy and Rural Growth, said: "The Ardrishaig community has looked forward to the delivery of a new pubic square for some time now.
"As with so many other areas, the pandemic has impacted on the timescale for delivery. It’s great news with the appointment of our contractor, we’re moving closer to starting work. We look forward to creating a vibrant village centre with excellent facilities for the local community and visitors to enjoy from 2023."
