Angus Council and ANGUSalive, in partnership with Monifieth Community Resource Group, have announced a community engagement programme on the proposal for the integration of the library within the new Community Hub in Monifieth.
The Community Hub, planned to be constructed within Blue Seaway Park at the heart of the beachfront, is set to provide a new purpose-built community centre. Run as a social enterprise by local people it will bring benefit and enjoyment to residents and has been designed to provide opportunities in culture, learning, sport, leisure, health and wellbeing.
A feasibility study carried out by Aim Design provides an impressive proposal for the design and layout of a new library integrated within a larger Community Hub.
ANGUSalive, Angus Council and Monifieth Community Resource Group are now sharing this proposal with the community to inform how the Library and ACCESS services can be delivered in a new, purpose-built space.
This is a development for the local community and library users as the new location, modern layout, adaptable space and integration in a community managed resource will support the long term future of library services in the town.
Kirsty Hunter, ANGUSalive Chief Executive said: "We are looking forward to engaging with the local Monifieth community on these exciting plans and hearing their thoughts and ideas about how we can deliver library services from the new site.
"Its location at the Blue Seaway is a short stroll from the library’s current location and is a buzzing locale used by different age groups for various social and leisure activities. This fantastic location matched with what would be a modern and accessible, fit-for-purpose space, would potentially help increase usage, add further value to the vibrancy of the Community Hub as well as expand multi-generational participation within the entire facility.
"The fabulous outside space will enable us to move out with the library walls to combine services such as adult and children’s group activities alongside the wonderful outdoors.
"We received positive feedback at a previous community council meeting on the potential integration and we are now looking forward to the reaction to the plans through this engagement. I invite everyone interested in finding out more about this collaborative project to come along to one of the events or to view the proposal on our website to help shape the future of their community."
