Construction work is currently underway in Troon to build an Early Years Education Centre next to Struthers Primary School.
The £3.3 million project will have capacity for 100 children (2-5 years), interactive learning spaces, as well as a dedicated play area.
Included in the project will be a 36m x 18m all-weather outdoor games area and outdoor gym equipment, which can be accessed by the wider community.
Access to the site is set to be improved with the introduction of a new road, as well as a path for pedestrians.
The centre will have parking for 20 vehicles and drop-off areas for cars and buses. The all-weather outdoor games area will also benefit from nine parking spaces.
The new centre has been designed to be as energy efficient as possible, it will have photovoltaic roof panels, and air source heat pumps to help with carbon reduction.
Councillor Martin Kilbride, Buildings, Housing and Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "I'm delighted that work is underway. When completed next year, this new energy efficient building is sure to be a hit with children, parents and staff as well as the wider community."
Councillor Stephen Ferry, Education Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "This exciting project is a continuation of the Council's commitment to give children the best possible start in life. The centre will have interactive learning spaces, as well as a dedicated play area which is important for child development."
The centre is set to be completed in early 2023.
